"Would a father with a suffocating child want his child to draw on the oxygen tank in a measurable and reasonable way?" I heard that as I listened to the book "Gentle and Lowly" by Dane Ortlund this morning. It pretty much summed up my week!!
Many of you know at this point that our son Preston ended up in the hospital this weekend. It was some kind of congestion that triggered his reactive airways and by Saturday night made it hard to breathe and had depleted his oxygen. He needed to draw deep on the oxygen that was pumped in for several hours. The Lord has used so many of you to care for us and pray. He's answered your prayers and Preston is doing great!
The above question was posed in the book as an illustration of how we as sinners should depend on and ask for Jesus' grace. We don't need to be measured or reasonable. We don't have to worry about asking too much of Jesus. We need him! We go to him like someone in need of oxygen!
With the sermon the Lord asked me to preach this weekend and the experience our family is going through, this question was incredibly fitting. Even more, it's been a season that has required many in our church family to depend on Jesus in ways they haven't before.
Draw deep on Jesus this week, CCC! Celebrating with Emily!
There's just nothing like celebrating a new sister in Christ! Spend some time around Emily and you'll notice her infectious joy and her desire to be like Jesus. She's just awesome!
Time to Love Shelbyville!
It's always exciting to me to see how the Lord uses Love Shelbyville to infuse his name across our community! I anticipate more of that this coming weekend! Come be a part of that! More info and sign-ups.
Annual Covenant Dinner, Sunday at 5 pm
It's not normal, but I love this time where we get together to celebrate what God has done, prayerfully consider the direction of our church together, and pull together for the sake of the mission God has called us to: Joining Jesus in Going out to Make disciples.
Plus, we get to eat some food together and just spend some time with one another! WIN! Don't miss out - in a family, each of us matter!
Miraculous Births
Our Christmas series is right around the corner! It's always a great time to invite friends and family who may or may not be seeking Jesus. This year we're opening God's Word to a few miraculous births and considering the hope, joy, peace, and love that a miraculous re-birth in Christ has on our lives! Let's go!
