We are called not to neglect gathering together (Hebrews 10:25), but we are also equipped in following Jesus through His community.
Often times we connect “church” to Sunday morning Gathering but the truth is, church is where God’s people gather.
Have you ever thought about what it would be like to commit to a season of regularly gathering with others? What would happen, even just physically, to have a community around you that you don’t just exist in, but are truly part of? And what would happen spiritually if you said yes to being part of the body in a deeper way? With summer winding down, we naturally start to change up some of our schedules, priorities, and commitments.
Do those plans consist of growing closer to Christ and His Community?
Hebrews 13:13–14 says, “Let us then go to him outside the camp, bearing his disgrace. For we do not have an enduring city here; instead, we seek the one to come.” (CSB)
If we do not have an enduring city here...how are we able to have it now? By being it. BEing the church. So although the city is to come, we walk it out by being the church now. Outside of 198 Frankfort Road...that’s the address of our church gathering space....but my life....your life..that’s where we be the church. Together. Towards Christ AND HIS COMMUNITY.
Listen, I have heard it before...even from my own mouth...
Those are all real excuses, but they often don’t lead you to transformative relationships.
Yet especially if you’ve been there, you know it’s worth it. If you haven’t, catch this:
“The physical presence of other Christians is a source of incomparable joy and strength to the believer.” (Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Life Together)
So how do you take a next step into community this season? Get connected with others. Take the next step to gain the glimpse of Heaven God gives us through His community.
