Celebrating with Justis and Anna!
What a day celebrating with Justis, Anna, and their family and friends! It was incredibly impressive to hear how those students articulated their faith in Jesus through writing! It was a reminder to me that it's God's Spirit who teaches us and enables us to learn who he is. God has so much for us - LIFE in abundance if we'll just grab on to him.
Thanks for leading us by example Justis and Anna! Keep growing!
Recommending Jeff Bracken
Getting to recommend Jeff Bracken as a candidate for our Pastor/Elder team on a day he was baptizing one of his students is incredibly fitting! Jeff and Mary have been at CCC since 10/10/10 - the beginning. And when the Lawyers came along, they were leading our student ministry efforts and much more. Over the next 2 weeks, Covenant Members can contact our current Pastor/Elders with questions and/or concerns about Jeff. We'll then vote on Jeff the week of March 23 (Voting will be open throughout the week. We'll contact Covenant Members.)

Praying for Melissa Ballard
Melissa Ballard (who was on the CCC launch team in 2009) baptizing Anna and being prayed over as she heads to Chile is a perfect fit as well. Melissa brings energy and passion and leadership to just about anything she does. And she does all that while caring for people deeply! I'm grateful to have her on our deacon team!
As she leaves for Chile this week, let's keep praying for her! If you want some prompts or ways you can be praying, check out this list from Lifeway.
Soaking in the reminder that God does incredible things when we give ourselves to the journey
Jeff and Melissa have been joining Jesus in going out to make disciples for 15 years now! There lives and callings look a lot different now than they did then, but it was nostalgic and a good reminder yesterday that God does incredible things in our lives when we just give ourselves to Jesus on this journey towards the city that is to come..
I'm trying to soak that in today.. for my self, but also as a reminder for our church family.
Let's keep journeying together CCC, one day at a time, one person at a time.
That takes..
Staying powerfully weak by Leading our Self vs. Managing our Self
Dallas Willard has always been someone who challenges me to think about what I've come to believe is the most important part of leadership: soul keeping. In this article on leadership and spiritual formation, he says this about the difference between leading and managing:
"There is a great difference between leadership and management. To manage is to have supervision over well-defined activities and goods. To lead requires assuming responsibilities for outcomes that have not been defined or assigned. It is to define and re-define tasks, means, and outcomes."
It made me realize I often manage my life when I need to be leading it. I'm managing my time and my money and my energy and the condition of my soul instead of assigning those things to serve the purpose of soul keeping and leadership.
He offers some super practical tips for taking care of your soul in that article. Go read it!
